SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team faces one of its most difficult challenges of the final stretch of the regular season, going on the road to face San Diego State on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 7:00 p.m. PT (8:00 pm MT).
Utah and its 9-0 Mountain West Conference record and 25-game conference winning streak takes on second-place SDSU at Cox Arena, where the Aztecs have a 13-game winning streak going. San Diego State is 7-2 in the MWC and 16-5 overall. The Aztecs losses in conference have come to Utah and TCU on the road.
Kalee Whipple is coming off her second Player of the Week honor of the season, averaging 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game against TCU and Wyoming. She had a double-double against the Horned Frogs with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Whipple also scored 22 points against Wyoming.
Whipple and Morgan Warburton combined to score 50 of Utah's 64 points against Wyoming. Warburton had a career-high 28 points vs. the Cowgirls.
Paris Johnson leads the Aztecs in points (15.1 ppg) and rebounds (8.7 rpg). Jene Morris (13.8 ppg) and Quenese Davis (11.0) are also averaging in double figures. Davis leads the MWC in assists with 121 while Morris is first in the conference in steals (64).
Utah and SDSU first met this year on Jan. 11, with the Utes taking away a 58-52 win in Salt Lake. The Utes transformed a 33-23 halftime lead into a victory, despite being outscored 29-25 in the second half. The Utes presented a balanced attack with four players in double figures in scoring, led by Katie King's 16 points and 13 rebounds. Halie Sawyer also had a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Morris led the Aztecs with 14 points while Johnson pulled down a team high 10 rebounds.
