LAS VEGAS - The Utah women's basketball team will be looking for its third MWC Tournament Championship on Saturday, March 14, against San Diego State. Tip is at 1:00 p.m. (PT) on Versus with commentary by Tim Neverett and Tim McCormick. Radio is available on KALL 700 with play-by-play from Chris Tunis.
Behind the spark of reserves Deanne Stevenson, Josi McDermott and Sasha McKinnon, Utah (21-9) overcame a 16-point deficit before Morgan Warburton scored the game-winning basket with less than three seconds left to give Utah a 56-55 victory over New Mexico in the semifinals.
The Utes have played in the championship game four times (2000, 2004, 2005 and 2006), winning in 2000 and 2006. Utah is 14-7 in the history of the tournament.
Yesterday was the first test for the new women's bracket, which gives the top two seeds each a bye through the semifinal round. No. 1 seed Utah and No. 2 seed San Diego State each advanced to the championship game.
