The Utah women's basketball team is traveling to Italy for four games through May 19. Cydney Knight and Katie King share their thoughts on their travels through the first few days.
Greetings from Rome!
I suppose I should start off by telling you all that Italy is beautiful. The weather is perfect- its right at that point where it's not too hot and not too cold. Everything is very Italian which, I guess, is to be expected! Everyone is enjoying the food, especially GELATO I don't think that I've tasted anything more delicious. Yesterday we arrived in Rome and right away coach had us off to tour the Colisseum with our guide Sara. We also saw the Circus Maximus & the senate house. You don't really realize how BIG everything is until you see it in person. I am in awe still! My favorite place so far has been the Trevi fountain. We all walked down there as a team from our hotel (yes my feet are killing me!) and got to take pictures. It's really a beautiful masterpiece. One thing that is pretty different are the hotel rooms. They are so small, especially the beds. Imagine some of us trying to fit on one of them. A tiny twin bed is no match for our 6'2" frame. We aren't complaining too much. We are in Italy! You have to be careful around the drivers here though. They don't understand the concept of a crosswalk and definitely don't yield to pedestrians. I have had a few close encounters here already. Well, I figure I better wrap this all up now. I hope all is going well at home.
Baci from Italy (kisses from Italy).

We went to the Vatican today. It was so grandioso (huge)! We saw the Sistine Chapel, which was much smaller than I thought it would be, but it was breathtaking. Those paintings are magnificent. We also saw where many of the Popes were buried, most importantly, John Paul II. Then after we rested we went to the Pantheon. Then we had the night to eat and shop. It has been tons of walking because people here drive crazy. There seems to be no traffic laws, but no one has gotten hit yet. I am still getting used to the sleep patterns. The weather is so gorgeous and I am having so much fun!
Sincerely, Katie King
