TORONTO - Incoming Utah women's basketball player Taryn Wicijowski has been named to the 2009 Canadian Junior Women's National Team that will compete at the FIBA U19 World Championships, July 23 - Aug. 2 in Bankok, Thailand. Wicijowski was also selected as a team caption.
Canada, assigned to Pool C along with Russia, Tunisia and Japan, will open the tournament on July 23 (2:15 p.m. local time) against the Russian Team. The Canadians play Tunisia on July 24 at 1:00 p.m. (local time) and Japan on July 25 at 3:15 p.m. (local time).
The top three countries in each pool will advance to the second round in another round robin format while the top eight teams after the second round will advance to the single-elimination quarterfinals.
Wicijowski was also on the 2008 team that placed second at the FIBA Americas U18 Championships, earning Canada a berth in the U19 World Championships for the second consecutive time. She had 58 points during last summer's championships.
