Utah is coming off a 54-47 win over Wyoming on Wednesday, led by a double-double from Kalee Whipple. Down 25-20 at halftime, the Utes took as much as a nine-point lead in the second half before sealing the win with a pair of Halie Sawyer free throws.
Brigham Young is 13-5 on the year, 4-2 in the MWC. The Cougars have dropped two of their last three games, most recently a 60-57 loss to New Mexico.
BYU is second in the MWC in scoring offense (68.4) and scoring defense (56.5). Mindy Bonham leads the Cougars with 11.9 points per game, while Jazmine Foreman (10.2) and Coriann Wood (10.0) are also in double figure scoring. Three players are averaging over five rebounds per game - Wood, Kristen Riley and Alexis Kaufusi.
BYU head coach Jeff Judkins played for Utah from 1974-78 and was an assistant coach with the program for 10 years.
Utah leads the all-time series against BYU, 61-31, including winning the last four meetings.
The winner of Wednesday's game between BYU and Utah earns five points in the Deseret First Duel rivalry series between Utah and BYU.
BYU currently leads the 64-point series 16-6. BYU earned points for wins in soccer and football while the Utes points have come from a pair of volleyball victories.
The rivalry series includes competition in the 12 sports the two universities compete in head-to-head during regular-season play. The Deseret First Duel will use a system that awards points to the winner of each competition. Points won by the individual sports will count toward each school's overall total. In women's basketball, BYU and Utah face each other twice, with each game worth five points. The Utah vs. BYU rivalry is one of the oldest and strongest in the country. In November 2005, the Wall Street Journal rated the rivalry the fourth best in college athletics.
