SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team opens its 2010-11 campaign on Sunday, Nov. 7, with an exhibition game against NAIA school Warner Pacific. Tipoff is at 3:00 p.m. in the Huntsman Center. Admission is free to the public.
"This is a good opportunity for our young team to play a game that doesn't count in a game environment," interim head coach Anthony Levrets said. "This time of year we are looking to use every practice and every game to continue to get better."
Three starters return for Utah from the 2009-10 season - 2010 MWC Freshman of the Year Taryn Wicijowski, junior Janita Badon and sophomore Rachel Messer. The Utes will have one of the youngest teams in the nation with just one junior and two seniors on the roster.
Utah was picked to finish fourth in the preseason Mountain West Conference poll as the Utes enter their final season in the MWC. Wicijowski was a preseason all-conference pick.
Warner Pacific was picked to finish fifth in the Cascade Conference preseason poll after finishing 18-10 last year. In addition, juniors Kelsey Mattsen and Cameryn Calhoun were named to the preseason all-conference team. Mattesen led the Knights last season with 11.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
