COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah senior Kalee Whipple has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Whipple averaged a double-double for the week with 21.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, leading the Utes to a 2-0 record against UNLV and San Diego State.
This is Whipple's second weekly honor of the season and the eighth of her career.
The Hiko, Nev., native recorded 19 points in Utah's 51-35 victory over the Rebels on Wednesday. She also tallied 11 rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks despite sitting out several minutes with an injury early in the second half.
Whipple went on to score 23 points against the Aztecs in a 73-55 win on Saturday, including 15 points in the second half to help Utah pull away after a 33-32 halftime deficit. She went 9-for-21 (.429) from the field and made 3-of-4 (.750) free-throws in addition to pulling down nine boards and tallying two steals and two assists.
Whipple leads the MWC with 17.6 points per game and ranks ninth in the conference in rebounding (6.6 rebounds per game).
Utah returns to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 24, against Air Force. Tip is at 7:00 p.m. in the Huntsman Center.
