Red White Game, Festivities are Free to the Public

The teams and coaching staffs have been chosen for the eighth-annual Red White spring game on Saturday, April 17. The game will kick off at 1 p.m. in Rice-Eccles Stadium, preceded by the Ultimate Tailgating Competition, and games featuring the MUSS (11 a.m.) and Alumni (noon).

The Red White game is free to the public. Almost everyone on the team will play some, although a handful of starters will sit out entirely or play for just a half. Players who will sit out for precautionary reasons or due to injury include: Matt Asiata, Jereme Broooks, Tony Bergstrom, Jeremiah Tofaeono, Derrick Shelby, Joape Pela, Jamel King, Justin Taplin-Ross, Beau Burton, Shaky Smithson, Derek Tuimauga, Sam Brenner, Latu Heimuli, Brandon Burton, Nai Fotu and Chris Washington, Brad Clifford and J.J. Williams.

The first festivity of the day is the Ultimate Tailgating Competition, which sold out in its first year. The gates to the Rice-Eccles Stadium west lot will open to the registered contestants at 6 a.m. Celebrity judges for the tailgating competition include former Utes Eric Weddle and Zane Beadles, Ute Director of Athletics Dr. Chris Hill, radio personality Tom Barberi, Swoop and MUSS board member Ellen Stemle.

The popular alumni game will feature a number of former football players.
