SALT LAKE CITY - Utah interim head women's basketball coach Anthony Levrets has announced the signing of Canadian Junior National Team player Michelle Plouffe to a National Letter of Intent.
Plouffe competed with current Ute Taryn Wicijowski at the 2009 FIBA World U19 Championship, where Canada finished fourth. She averaged six points per game in nine games, with a high of 14 points against Japan. This past basketball season she competed at Harry Ainlay High School, leading the Titans to a 4A provincial championship. Plouffe spent 2008-09 at the National Elite Development Academy.
"We are excited about the addition of Michelle to our program," Levrets said. "She is a fabulous young student-athlete, excelling in the classroom as well as on the basketball floor. She possesses a skill set that is rare in a player of her size. She is an excellent passer, has great touch around the basket and is able to step out to the perimeter and make shots. Her skill set is perfect for how we play. She will have an immediate impact on our team, both on and off the floor."
Utah has had a number of players from the Canadian National Team over the years. In addition to Wicijowski, Kim Smith, Shona Thorburn and Jessica Perry have all spent time in the Team Canada program.
