SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team gathered last week to celebrate the 2009-10 season with its annual team banquet.
The following team awards were handed out:
Most Valuable Player - Kalee Whipple
Charlene Doi Academic Achievement Award - Hennasea Tokumura
Leadership Award - Kalee Whipple
Fern Gardner Most Inspirational Award - Hennasea Tokumura
Outstanding Defensive Player Award - Halie Sawyer
The team also celebrated its Mountain West Conference award winners and its players on the fall Dean's List. Some of the accomplishments that were remembered included coming back from a 15-point deficit to beat Oregon and Whipple scoring a school- and conference-record 45 points in a four-overtime game against TCU. The senior class of Whipple, Sawyer and Sasha McKinnon never lost in `The Pit' at New Mexico.
Utah advanced to the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT), finishing with a 23-12 record.
