COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Several Utah women's basketball players earned academic honors this past week, as the Mountain West Conference announced the spring Academic All-Conference teams and Scholar-Athlete awards.
The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. Women's basketball was led by Rachel Messer, who earned a 3.94 GPA during her freshman year. Also honored were Chelsea Bridgewater, Josi McDermott, Diana Rolniak and Taryn Wicijowski.
Utah had a total of 65 student-athletes recognized as scholar-athletes. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
Named to the Academic All-MWC team was Kalee Whipple, McDermott, Messer, Rolniak and Wicijowski.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MWC team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
