Former Utah women's basketball player Leilani Mitchell enters the playoffs with the WNBA's New York Liberty this week.
The Liberty earned the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs with an 88-87 overtime win against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. The team hosts Indiana in game one of their first-round series on Thursday, Aug. 26.
Mitchell, in her third season with the Liberty, started all 34 games at point guard. She averaged 9.3 points per game and 3.8 assists per game. Mitchell shot .486 from three-point range to lead the WNBA. She is also second in the league in three-point field goals made (72) while ranking fifth in steals (55).
Mitchell was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury in 2008 in the second round of the draft as the No. 25 overall pick. She played one year at Utah and was a finalist for the Lieberman Award (given to the top Division I point guard).
Mitchell is one of six former women's basketball players from the Mountain West Conference currently playing in the WNBA.
