COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah point guard Janita Badon has been named as the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 3-9. It is the second career league weekly honor for Badon, who was also honored back on Nov. 15.
Badon, a 5-7 junior from Portland, Ore., led the Utes to a 2-0 start in MWC play. Badon started the week just one rebound short of a triple-double in a 77-40 win at home over Air Force. She scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out 10 assists. On Saturday, Badon played a big role in Utah's 70-67 overtime win on the road against San Diego State. Her biggest impact in the game came in the final seconds of overtime, grabbing a defensive rebound with three seconds left and making two free throws with less than a second left to give Utah the three-point lead. She finished the game with 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals.
For the week, Badon averaged 17.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Badon shares the honor with Wyoming's Hillary Carlson.
Utah returns to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 12, against BYU.
