SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team will be looking to end a two-game slide against New Mexico on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
The Utes (9-9, 2-2 MWC) started the Mountain West Conference campaign 2-0 before dropping their last two games to BYU and Wyoming. Utah was able to overcome significant deficits in each game before falling in the end.
"During our winning streak, we did a good job on defense and limiting teams to one possession," interim head coach Anthony Levrets said. "During the two losses, we have given up a combined 34 offensive rebounds. We cannot give teams those opportunities."
Utah's 55-48 loss to Wyoming was its 10th game this year decided by less than 10 points. The Utes are 5-5 in games decided by 10 points or less.
New Mexico has struggled so far this season with a young team after losing two players to knee injuries. The Lobos are 0-3 in the conference (6-9 overall) and have dropped seven of their last eight games.
"New Mexico is similar to us in that they are young and talented," Levrets said. "It is always a difficult task going to play in The Pit."
Utah leads the all-time series against New Mexico, 49-18. The two teams have traditionally played very close games. The last 10 games have all been decided by a single-digit margin.
