With the start to the women's basketball season just around the corner, UtahUtes.com will be spotlighting the members of the women's basketball team in `Getting to Know.' Today's spotlight is junior Diana Rolniak.
What is your favorite basketball memory?
Winning the state championship my senior year at Regis, winning the Mountain West Championship last year in Vegas!
What is your favorite sport besides basketball?
Football - I love the Denver Broncos and the Philadelphia Eagles.
What do you like to do when you are not playing basketball?
Study in the math library with a Diet Coke and my lunch box. Cook (gluten free of course). Study more, hang out at home, watch The Office.
Do you have a nickname? How did you get your nickname?
DRol = Diana + Rolniak. Thank the Messer family for that one.
Why did you choose Utah? What is the best thing about Utah?
I came to Utah because it was the best overall fit for me. A great winning tradition, coaching staff, and chemistry program. Utah really supports my aspirations and can help me get to where I want to be in life.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
My mom does it all. She balances being a mom and a physician perfectly.
My favorite thing about Salt Lake City is:
The mountains.
The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
Taryn Wicijowski. She is doing a lot of things I am trying to do and has a lot of the same goals and is very successful.
What do you like best about Coach Levrets?
Coach Levrets has helped me through many difficult problems. He cares about all of us on a personal level.
What are your goals for this year?
Survive my course load. Make a serious contribution to this team, whatever that may be, get better. Win the Pac-12 and make some noise in the tourney!
What are your pregame superstitions?
I don't like to talk while I'm getting dressed. I am also constantly worried I haven't eaten enough so I eat anytime we are in the locker room.
What is your major and what do you want to do after you graduate?
Mathematical chemistry. I hope to go to medical school and become a surgeon (trauma, oncology, or transplant - still deciding).
