SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team will be looking to snap a two-game slide against Wyoming on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7:00 p.m. in Laramie.
Utah (12-13, 5-6 MWC) has dropped its past two games by single digits. The Utes are coming off a strong performance against conference-leader BYU, erasing a 13-point deficit in the final five minutes before falling 61-58. The Cougars had dominated their most recent opponents, and had not played a game decided by single digits since falling to TCU on Jan. 19, 54-51.
Michelle Plouffe has been on a hot streak as of late, scoring 20 or more points in three of Utah's last four games. She tallied 21 against BYU.
Wyoming and Utah are two of the top defensive teams in the conference, with the Utes leading the Mountain West Conference with a 55.2 scoring defense average. The Cowgirls are second in the league, allowing 56.5 points per game.
"I am very proud of our team effort last week, especially against BYU," interim head coach Anthony Levrets said. "Wyoming is an excellent team, and we had difficulty scoring against them at home. We have continued to address our offensive development, and we will need to be able to score to have a chance to win."
Wyoming has been one of the top teams in the MWC this season with an 8-3 conference record, 18-6 overall. The Cowgirls only losses have been to TCU (twice) and BYU. Seniors Aubrey Vandiver and Hillary Carlson are two of the top players in the conference.
Wyoming defeated the Utes in Salt Lake City on Jan. 15, 55-48. Utah rallied from an early 16-point deficit to cut the Wyoming lead to single digits in the final minutes of the game. Janita Badon led Utah with 14 points while Diana Rolniak tallied 10 points and seven rebounds. Vandiver scored 22 points with nine rebounds for the Cowgirls.
