SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah forward Michelle Plouffe has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 31-Feb. 6. It is the first career MWC weekly honor for Plouffe.
Plouffe scored a career-high 30 points to start the week in a 71-52 win over UNLV on Feb. 1. She scored the first six points of a 14-2 run in the final 7:30 of the first half to give the Utes a solid halftime lead. At Air Force on Feb. 5, Plouffe scored 20 points to go along with seven rebounds and three blocks in the 55-40 win. The Ute rookie scored 12 of Utah's final 14 points of the game as the Falcons closed to within four with 9:30 left in the game.
For the week, Plouffe averaged 25.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 2.5 blocks per game. She shot .514 (19-37) from the field, including .400 (2-5) from three-point range, and .769 (10-13) from the free throw line.
For the season, Plouffe leads all freshmen in the MWC with 13.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
Utah (12-11, 5-4 MWC) returns to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 9, against San Diego State.
