PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Utah men's tennis team (2-3) fell to eighth-ranked Stanford (5-0) by a score of 7-0, Tuesday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Stanford took a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. At the third position, sophomore Dmytro Mamedov and freshman Garrett LaBarre were topped by Greg Hirshman and Walker Kehrer, 8-1.

At the No. 1 slot, freshmen Devin Lane and Alejandro Medinilla suffered a 8-4 loss to Alex Clayton and Ted Kelly. Junior Benito Suriano and Matt Cowley were unable to overcome Matt Kandath and Denis Lin, falling by a score of 8-5.

In singles play, the Utes dropped all six matches, giving the Cardinal's their 7-0 win. Mamedov was topped by Lin, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 2 slot, while Surinao fell the No. 61-ranked Clayton, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 1 spot.

Medinilla dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision to Hirshman at the No. 3 position and Cowley was defeated by Kehrer at the fifth slot by a score of 6-4, 6-1.

LaBarre was topped by Jamin Ball, 6-1, 5-7, 1-0(8), at the No. 6 position, while Lane fell to Kandath, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(7).

Utah returns to action tomorrow against 18th-ranked California (2-2) at 1:30 p.m. PT at the Don and Ethel McLeod Tennis Complex in Berkeley, Calif.
