LAS VEGAS - The Utah women's basketball team will play in its third-straight Mountain West Conference Tournament championship game on Saturday, March 11, against TCU at 1:00 p.m. PT. The game will be televised live on VERSUS.
Utah is playing in its third-straight MWC title game. The Utes won the title in 2009 against San Diego State and fell to SDSU in overtime in 2010. Utah has played in the championship game seven times in the 12-year history of the tournament (2000, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010). The Utes won tournament titles in 2000, 2006 and 2009.
Utah has won three-straight games in the tournament as the No. 5 seed. The Utes beat UNLV in game one, 55-44, downed Air Force, 70-55, and won a thriller over BYU, 50-49, after a jumper at the buzzer from Michelle Plouffe.
A five seed has never won the MWC Tournament.
TCU received two byes as the No. 2 seed, defeating New Mexico in the semifinals, 61-40.
Utah is 0-2 against TCU this year. In the first meeting in SLC, Utah fell 56-46 after rallying from several deficits. The score was tied at 41 with six minutes left before TCU went on a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach. At TCU, Utah rallied from a 17-point deficit in the second half, cutting the lead to five points with two minutes left before TCU hit six-straight free throws down the stretch for the win.
TCU is 22-9 on the year, 13-3 in the MWC. The Horned Frogs losses have come to BYU, New Mexico and Air Force.
