SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team awaits word on its opponent in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, which will be announced on Monday, March 14, at 5:00 p.m. MT. The Selection Monday Special Presented by Capital One will be available in its entirety on ESPN HD and simulcast on ESPN3.com.
Utah is a host institution for the 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball First and Second Rounds, allowing the Utes to play at home to start the tournament. The first round games will start on Saturday, March 19.
Utah earned the MWC's automatic bid to the tournament with a 52-47 overtime win over second-seeded TCU on Saturday in the MWC Tournament. The Utes won four games in five days, defeating UNLV, Air Force and upsetting No. 1 seed BYU to reach the title game. The Utes entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed and are the lowest seed to ever win the MWC Tournament.
Utah is making its 17th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and its first since 2009. The Utes are 9-16 overall in the NCAA Tournament.
The Utes last hosted the first and second rounds in 2001, defeating Fairfield (79-57) and Iowa (78-69) as a No. 5 seed to reach the Sweet Sixteen.
Tickets are $28 (adult) and $18 (under 18) and are for one session on Saturday and one session on Monday, a total of three games. Tickets are available at 801-581-UTIX (8849).
