SALT LAKE CITY - Utah women's basketball player Michelle Plouffe has been selected as one of 12 players to participate with the Canada Basketball Senior Women's program on a summer tour of Europe from May 27-June 12.
Also named to the team were former Utes Kim Smith and Shona Thorburn.
The team will spend time training in France and Spain, with exhibition games against Spain, Japan, France, Belarus and Russia.
"Michelle is an incredibly talented young woman with an unbelievable future ahead of her," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "She will do a great job representing the University of Utah as she competes for her country."
The tour is one of several tryout phases for players seeking a berth on the Canadian National squad that will compete in the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Women. The winner of the FIBA Americas Championship will earn a berth in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England.
Plouffe led all freshmen in the Mountain West Conference last year with 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. She was selected as the MWC Freshman of the Year.
