SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team hosts Utah State in the first round of the WNIT on Thursday, March 15, at 7:00 p.m. PT.
"We are very excited to have the opportunity to play in the postseason," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "It is great for this young team to get the opportunity to see what the postseason feels like. There is something special about playing at a time when if you lose you're out, and helping a team grow as we continue to try to go the direction that we want to go."
The Utes are coming off a 55-41 loss to Colorado in the Pac-12 tournament.
Utah has made five appearances in the WNIT (1979, 1984, 1999, 2007 and 2010). Utah is 3-8 overall in the tournament. The Utes went 1-1 during each of their last two appearances in 2010 and 2007. In 2010, Utah defeated Saint Mary's before falling to eventual WNIT champion California in the second round.
Utah State is 21-9 this season, advancing to the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament last week. The Aggies are making their second-straight appearance in the WNIT.
"Utah State is a quality team, they have 21 wins," Levrets said. "They shoot the basketball very well and have a good inside presence to go along with that. It will be another big challenge for us as we try to move forward."
Utah holds a 28-1 overall advantage in the all-time series against Utah State. The two teams have only played three times since 1988. The Aggies won in Logan in 2009 in their only win of the series, with the Utes taking games in the Huntsman Center in 2007 and 2011.
