LONDON - Despite a late comeback, the Canada Senior Women's National Team fell short to France, 64-60, in its third game in pool play in the 2012 Olympics.
Shona Thorburn led all scorers for the second-straight game with 17 points. Kim Smith scored eight points. Michelle Plouffe did not play.
The score was close throughout the game. France held a seven-point lead with 35 seconds remaining in the game before Canada made a furious comeback to come within two points with nine seconds left, 62-60. France clinched the victory with free throws in the final seconds.
Canada (1-2) has two games remaining in pool play, with its next game against Brazil on Friday, August 3. Canada currently ranks fourth in group B, and needs to finish in the top four in the group to move on to the quarterfinals, which begin on August 7.
