SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team will travel overseas for a 10-day trip through Sweden, Norway and Denmark, beginning on Monday, May 6.
The Utes will see the sights in Stockholm, Sweden; Oslo, Norway and Copenhagen, Denmark.
"This is a great opportunity for our players to have the opportunity to travel abroad, experience a different culture, and get an educational experience while getting a little bit more basketball in," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said.
Utah will play Swedish team Sallen Basket on May 8, facing the Norwegian Nationals on May 12th before facing the Falcon/SISU Select team on May 15.
"We don't know anything about the teams that we are playing," Levrets said. "I think a couple of the teams we are playing are going to be really good. We're looking forward to the competition, and getting some kids who didn't play as many minutes last year, who we are counting on for next year, an opportunity to get some meaningful minutes heading into next season."
The Utes will have a built-in tour guide in freshman Awa Kalmstrom, who is from Sweden.
"This is awesome for Awa to get to go back home and play in front of her mom and her family," Levrets said. "To have someone from their country with us from this trip is going to be a great opportunity for our players and staff to experience a culture from the eyes of someone who is a native."
The Utes have made several trips abroad over the years, including stops in France, Switzerland and Italy.
