SALT LAKE CITY - Senior forward Michelle Plouffe of the University of Utah women's basketball team has been selected to the Sporting News Preseason All-American Third Team, the publication announced recently.
"This is a tremendous achievement for Michelle," Utah Head Coach Anthony Levrets said. "She has worked incredibly hard to become a great player and put herself in position to be recognized as one of the elite players in the country. We are expecting her to have a huge impact in her senior year here at the U."
Plouffe has been on the Associated Press All-American Team as an honorable mention selection each of the last two seasons and is on pace to become the third player in Utah history to reach 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
A two-time All-Pac-12 Conference selection, Plouffe ranks ninth all-time at Utah in career scoring (1,566), sixth in career rebounding (865) and second in career blocks (127). She is also second in career defensive rebounds (651), fourth in rebounding average (8.3), and fifth in scoring average (15.1). The Edmonton, Alberta native is eighth in school history in field goals attempted (1,402), ninth in 3-point field goal attempts (391) and 10th in offensive rebounds (214).
Plouffe is one of three student-athletes on the list from Pac-12 institutions.
Last season, Plouffe was an All-Pac-12 and Honorable Mention Pac-12 All-Defensive Team selection after ranking fourth in the Pac-12 in scoring (17.2) and fifth in rebounding (9.4). She also set Utah single-season records for rebounds (347), defensive rebounds (284) and field goals attempted (557), while her 635 points scored is the second-highest in school history.
During her sophomore campaign in 2011-12, Plouffe made the All-Pac-12 Team after finishing ninth in the Pac-12 and leading the Utes in scoring (14.1). She was also fourth in the conference in defensive rebounds (6.2) and free throw percentage (.777), while ranking sixth in blocked shots (1.4).
