WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Senior forward Michelle Plouffe and freshman forward Emily Potter both earned postseason accolades from the Pac-12 Conference, the conference office announced Tuesday after a vote by its head coaches.
Plouffe earned a spot on the All-Pac-12 Team for the second straight season and was also one of five players selected to the All-Defensive Team. Showing why she is one of the most complete players in the Pac-12, Plouffe is listed among the league leaders in six different categories.
"These honors are richly deserved for Michelle," Utah Head Coach Anthony Levrets said. "She's obviously had a major impact on this program over her entire career. She has had an amazing senior campaign with a ton of weight on her shoulders to carry the load both offensively and defensively. The coolest part about her is that as good of a player that she is, she is an even better person."
Plouffe earned a spot on Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List. A Preseason All-American Third Team selection by The Sporting News and an NCAA Senior CLASS Award nominee, Plouffe has been on the Associated Press All-American Team as an honorable mention selection each of the last two seasons. Plouffe was named the espnW National Player of the Week and Pac-12 Player of the Week on Dec. 16.
Plouffe is third with 14 double-doubles (33rd in NCAA) eighth in scoring (18.3 ppg) (81st in NCAA). She also has a .410 (172-420) shooting percentage (224th in NCAA). In the league-only stats, Plouffe was 10th among league leaders in scoring (17.6 ppg)
After picking up Honorable Mention Defensive Team status in 2012-13, Plouffe made her way onto the All-Defensive Team after finishing the regular season second in the Pac-12 with 8.3 defensive rebounds per game and third in the league in total rebounds at 10.4 per game (31st in NCAA). She also ranked sixth (115th in NCAA) in steals (2.0 per game). In Pac-12 games only, Plouffe is second in defensive rebounds (8.3 drpg), fourth in total rebounding (9.9 rpg), sixth in steals (1.9 spg), ninth in minutes (34.9 mpg) and 13th in blocks (0.8 bpg).
Potter was picked to the All-Freshman Team finishing third in the Pac-12 statistics (103rd in NCAA) in blocked shots (1.4 per game) during the regular season. Potter was also seventh in field goal percentage (.468, 130-279), 12th in defensive rebounds (4.8 drpg), tied for 17th in rebounding (6.5 per game) and 26th in the league in scoring (10.4 per game). She led Pac-12 freshmen in blocks, defensive rebounds and shooting, third in rebounds, and fourth in scoring. In Pac-12 games only, Potter ranked fourth in blocks (1.4 bpg), 12th in defensive rebounds (5.2 drpg), 15th in total rebounds (6.8 rpg) and tied for 29th in scoring (9.3 ppg).
"Being on the all-freshman team shows what you can do," Levrets said. "Emily understands what a great honor this is. Hopefully this will push her to become an even better player and compete to be an all-conference player in the future."
Eleventh-seeded Utah will face sixth-seeded Washington (17-12, 10-8 Pac-12) the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Tournament First Round on Thursday, Mar. 6 at 8:30 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Networks.
