UCLA extended to an eight-point advantage (12-4) before a 6-0 Utah run, including four Wicijowski free throws and a Rodriguez jumper, brought Utah back within two (12-10). Unfortunately, the Bruins worked back out to a five-point edge (17-12) before Rodriguez knocked down a 3-pointer from the top of the key (17-15). UCLA hit a 3-pointer to come back within two (31-29) and the game would be even for a third time at 33-33 after a pair of Bruin free throws. UCLA used a 9-2 run to claim a seven-point lead (42-35) before jumpers by Anae and Rodriguez cut Utah's deficit to three (42-39). After UCLA drew a foul, the Bruins made 1-of-2 at the line to grab a 49-46 lead and Rodriguez dribbled across mid-court and called timeout with 8.6 seconds to set up Utah's final possession. Unfortunately, Utah could not convert and UCLA came away with the 49-46 win.
