SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's basketball team has announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Megan Jacobs and Kiana Moore will join the Utes for the 2016-17 season, Ute Head Coach Lynne Roberts announced Thursday.
Jacobs is a 6'1" wing player from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, while Moore is a 5'7" guard from Vanden High School in Fairfield, Calif.
"I am really excited about our first recruiting class here at Utah," Roberts said. "Both Megan Jacobs and Kiana Moore are exactly the type of players we want in our program: motivated, athletic, competitive, and willing to do the hard work it takes to be great. Off the court, they are both quality people from great families and programs that will be such positive additions to our Utah family."
In addition to Jacobs and Moore, the Utes will also welcome Clemson transfer Daneesha Provo to their lineup for Roberts' second season at Utah in 2016-17.
"Adding Daneesha Provo, who is redshirting this season due to transfer rules, to the mix with Megan and Kiana will bring instant athleticism, depth and competitiveness to our roster," Roberts said.
Megan Jacobs
6'1" / Wing / Las Vegas / Bishop Gorman High School / Vegas Elite
Jacobs plays for Head Coach Sheryl Krmpotich at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas as well as the Vegas Elite club team for Coach Brian Sitter. She is a versatile perimeter threat who earned first-team All-Southwest League Sunset Division recognition as a junior and a second-team all-state selection during her sophomore season.
A two-time member of the Las Vegas Review-Journal Super Seven, Jacobs averaged a team-high 6.1 assists per game last season and helped the Gaels to a 24-6 record, an 8-0 mark in league play and a berth in the state championship game. Jacobs was third on the team with 10 points and six rebounds per contest. As a sophomore in 2013-14, Jacobs led Bishop Gorman in steals, assists (six per game), and free throw percentage, while scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds per game. She also received the team's Heart and Hustle Award. As a freshman in 2012-13, Jacobs averaged eight points, six assists and five rebounds per game and was honored with the team's Heart Award.
Also a success in the classroom, Jacobs is a four-time Bishop Gorman Scholar-Athlete award recipient. She is the daughter of Mark and Beth Jacobs and has three siblings, including her brother, Ben, who played football at Fresno State and is a linebacker for the NFL's Carolina Panthers.
Jacobs on why she chose Utah: "I've always dreamed about playing basketball in the Pac-12 and I felt that Utah was the perfect place for me to continue my academic and athletic career."
Roberts on Jacobs: "Megan is a 6'1" versatile and strong guard who can play point guard all the way to forward. She has great vision in passing and can score off of the dribble around the basket. Add in her 3-point shooting ability, and you have a really tough matchup. She's going to thrive in our system."
What they're saying about Jacobs:
Brian Sitter (Las Vegas Elite AAU): "I'm super proud of the player that Megan has become. She's such a competitor. Her work ethic and leadership had such a positive effect on our program and the other girls around her. I have no doubt that she will take those attributes into college next year and make an immediate impact. I'm looking forward to following her and the Utes over the next few years as they grow into a national contender."
Sheryl Krmpotich (Bishop Gorman HS Head Coach): "Megan Jacobs is a diamond in the rough. Her ability to play both the point and shooting guard makes her a dynamic player and tough to defend. I truly believe Utah is the perfect fit for MJ. Her height, skill set, defense, versatility and overall knowledge of the game will help her excel at the college level. Megan has been a coach's dream for me and I am looking forward to watching her develop at the next level. We have unfinished business at Gorman [this season] and I know Megan will be one of the catalysts for attaining that state championship ring. I absolutely love this kid and am so proud to be her high school coach."
