Utah Women's Basketball Downed at USC, 73-54

LOS ANGELES - Senior forward Taryn Wicijowski poured in a game-high 21 points to go with four rebounds and two assists, but the University of Utah women's basketball team dropped a 73-54 decision at USC on Friday in the Galen Center.
Utah (7-15, 1-10 Pac-12) was led in the contest by Wicijowski, who turned in her 15th double-figure scoring game of the season and her fifth game with 20 or more points in 2014-15. She also had four rebounds to go with a pair of assists and a steal.
Junior point guard Danielle Rodriguez scored eight points and dished out three assists to go along with a pair of steals.
Freshman wing Tanaeya Boclair registered seven points and pitched in five boards to go with a season-best best mark of three assists. She also hauled in five rebounds, which stood second on the squad.
Freshman center Joeseta Fatuesi grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in addition to six points and a steal.
Junior guard Valerie Nawahine came up with a career-high six points in just 10 minutes of action as she knocked down all three of her field goal attempts as well as three rebounds.
Freshman Jada Matthews also recorded a new season high as she turned in four points, including her first 3-point field goal as a Ute.
Senior guard Cheyenne Wilson equaled her season best with four rebounds.
Jumpers by Wilson and Wicijowski with a Fatuesi lay-in gave the Utes an early 6-3 lead before an 11-0 run gave the Women of Troy an eight-point edge (16-8). Boclair snapped the drought with consecutive lay-ins and a Wicijowski free throw for a 5-0 run to close within five (18-13). Unfortunately, USC was able to work its lead out to 11 (29-18) before taking a 15-point edge (36-21) into halftime.
The Utes used a 9-0 run at the beginning of the second half to close within eight (38-30). Unfortunately, the Women of Troy were able to extend back out to a 24-point edge (73-49)
USC (12-10, 4-7 Pac-12) was led by a 16-point outing by McKenzie Calvert.
