SAN FRANCISCO - University of Utah senior forward Taryn Wicijowski was named to the 2014-15 Pac-12 Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic Team, announced today by Commissioner Larry Scott. Redshirt sophomores Nakia Arquette and Paige Crozon along with junior Danielle Rodriguez each received Honorable Mention.
Wicijowski, the reigning Pac-12 Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was a force in the classroom as a two-time academic all-conference honoree earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology (emphasis in Cellular and Molecular Biology) and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry. She is currently working on a minor in Nutrition, all the while maintaining a 3.98 GPA.
Wicijowski was a rebounding and scoring force for the Utes and in the Pac-12, ranking in the top 10 in the conference in scoring and rebounding again this season while averaging 13.9 and 7.9 rebounds per game. Wicijowski was the fourth women's basketball player in school history with at least 1,800 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. This season Wicijowski earned an All-Pac-12 nomination from the Pac-12 in the media vote, as well as All-Pac-12 and All-Pac-12 defensive team honorable mention honors from the coaches.
Arquette played in 29 of 30 games this season with one start and turned in a season-high 10 points at Washington on Jan. 23.
Crozon started 18 games and finished third on team with a .412 field goal percentage (47-114) and a .338 shooting percentage from 3-point territory (24-71). She registered three double-figure point games and five different nine-point outings in 2014-15.
Rodriguez finished her junior campaign fourth in Pac-12 with a 1.9 (105-55) assist-to-turnover ratio (61st in NCAA). The Downey, Calif., native was ninth in Pac-12 with 3.6 assists per game (169th in NCAA) and led the team with a .359 3-point shooting percentage (23-64). In the league-only stats, she ranked fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6, 54-34) and 10th in assists (3.2 apg). She recorded 13 double-figure-point games and nine multi-block games.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
