Head Coach Lynne Roberts

Opening statement:
"We're coming off of a week where we got a split on the road, won at Arizona and lost a tough one at Arizona State, who is now eighth in the country. On the road, you're going into it looking to get a split. We certainly want to win every time we put the uniform on, but we were pleased to get back home. That was our second week in a row on the road. That's gets a little tiring. It's nice to be back home and we play tomorrow [Friday] night. Oregon State, who in one poll is eighth in the country, so this will be our third week in a row playing someone in the top 10. Stanford, who was ninth at the time we played them, Arizona State, who is now eighth in the Associated Press poll, and then Oregon State at 11. This conference is for real. It's no joke. We're looking forward to the challenge and just really happy to be home."
On facing top-10 opponents:
"You don't approach them any differently in terms of preparation or anything like that, but you have to really emphasize competing and fighting. The pressure is on those [ranked] teams to win. Where we're at with this stage in our program, they're "supposed to" win. I feel you can play a little more loose and fearlessly when playing ranked opponents. We'll get there. We want to get up to where we're in the top 25 as well and we'll get there eventually, but right now we're still building."
On home-court advantage in the Jon M. Huntsman Center:
"I'm not sure what it is exactly. I do know the elevation plays a factor. You can really see it in the third and fourth quarter, other teams star to wear down a little bit. We also talk about that you can't beat someone in the first or second quarter, but you can wear them down and beat them in the fourth. [Elevation] plays a factor, certainly. This is a tough place to come and play and I love that. We want to recruit to that and coach to that. And it's universal that you just play a little bit better at home. You have your own fans at the game, sleep in your own bed, shooting on rims that you shoot on every day. There are just a lot of those types of variables. The elevation is something for us that we're playing to as one of our strengths."
On Oregon State:
"Oregon State is very balanced. They won the regular-season Pac-12 title last year for the first time in their program's history. They've done a really nice job there building the program from the bottom up. They're anchored by their center, 6-6 Ruth Hamblin, also a Canadian. They're very good defensively, in large part because of [Hamblin]. She's big, long and active. It will be fun to see her and [Utah's Emily] Potter go at it. They match up well against each other. [Oregon State] has great athletes. They have kids who can really shoot. We've talked about that if you're a good team, you have good balance and Oregon State has really good balance. They don't seem to beat themselves. You have to beat them because they're not going to beat themselves."
On limiting turnovers:
"Since the beginning of the season, I've said that I don't really care about outcome. We always want to win, but I want to improve more than anything. That's one area that we have to improve upon. Last week, if you look at the Cal-Stanford trip, and then look at 'Did we improve in that area during the last trip?' The team will tell you that we didn't. We have to get better at that. How do we do it? There are a lot of different things that we have to do better. The one thing that I always say is that we can't shoot ourselves in the foot, in terms of turnovers. If the defense forces a turnover, then good for them, that's part of the game, but if we travel on a jump or throw a soft pass, those are things that we can control. We have to eliminate those. The other part of that is shot selection. I view a bad shot as a turnover in just that it's a live ball and the defense can get the rebound on a bad shot and go. It's just like a live turnover. It's not like our shot selection has been awful, it's been okay, but there are things we can improve upon. We have to improve on the turnovers. We're working on it in practice and talking about it a lot and I anticipate that it will get better. "
On recent increased pace of play:
"We have good athletes and they're in better shape than they've ever been in their lives. Being in great condition cures a lot of evils. They're buying into it and they have confidence. When you're confident in something, you tend to do it a little bit more so they're feeling good about that. We do have players who can get out and run so it's fun."
