SALT LAKE CITY -- Redshirt sophomore forward Emily Potter recorded a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double, but the University of Utah women's basketball team dropped a 77-65 contest to Oregon in a Pac-12 Conference contest on Sunday in the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Utah (12-7, 4-4 Pac-12) held a 21-16 edge in points off turnovers over Oregon. The Utes also earned a 14-10 advantage in second-chance points over the Ducks in the contest and held a 15-12 lead in bench points.
Three Utes reached double-figures, led by Potter's 22 points. This was Potter's 11th double-double of the season and 15 of her career. She scored 22 points off a 9-for-18 shooting percentage to secure her fifth game this season with at least 20 points (sixth of her career). The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has reached double-figures in points 17 times in 19 games during the 2015-16 campaign. Potter also hauled down a team-high 10 rebounds for her 11th contest this season in double-digits (17 for her career).
Senior wing Katie Kuklok was second on the team with 12 points against the Ducks, which included a 6-for-6 afternoon at the free throw line. She also pulled in three board to go with a pair of assists. The Poway, Calif., native has been in double-figures for points seven times in the last 10 games and eight times overall this season.
Junior wing Paige Crozon was the third Ute to score in double-figures as she had 11, which included a 4-for-4 performance at the foul line. Crozon has scored 10 or more points in 12 games this season and 22 times over her Utah career. The Humboldt, Saskatchewan native also came up with a career-high three blocks against the Ducks.
Sophomore wing Tanaeya Boclair scored eight points for the second straight game, which included a 2-for-3 from 3-point range. The San Antonio native tied her career high with two 3-point field goals and dished out a team-high four assists.
Senior point guard Danielle Rodriguez scored five points, added four rebounds and distributed two assists. She now has 400 over her career and is just three away from moving into seventh place in school history.
Redshirt sophomore wing Malia Nawahine added four points and three assists to go with a pair of rebounds, while sophomore forward Joeseta Fatuesi totaled three points and three rebounds.
Oregon scored the first four points of the contest as Utah missed its first four shots before Boclair buried a corner 3-pointer. The Ducks build an early nine-point edge (12-3) before a Potter transition lay-in broke the Ute drought. A Crozon 3-pointer from the top of the key brought Utah back within six (14-8), but UO came back with four straight to stretch to an 18-8 lead after the opening quarter.
Nawahine popped off of a screen for a jumper at the top of the key to open the scoring for the Utes in the second frame. Oregon answered with five straight to take a 13-point advantage (25-12). Kukok drained a 3-pointer to pull the Utes back to 10 (27-17) before the Ducks surged to a 15-point lead, 39-24.
Utah outs-scored Oregon 22-20 in the third quarter and scored 12 of the first 18 points in the third frame. The Utes made four of their first nine field goal attempts in the quarter (44.4%). UO scored the opening two points of the third quarter to lead by 18 (44-26) before a pair of Crozon free throws and a transition lay-in by Boclair brought Utah within 14 (44-30). The Ducks hit a 3-pointer on the next trip down the floor to grab a 17 point edge (47-30).
Utah then launched a 5-0 run, all by Potter, off an old-fashioned 3-point play and a post move to cut Utah's deficit to 10 (48-38) midway through the third. Unfortunately, UO scored the first five points after the media timeout to surge back to a 15-point edge (53-38). Utah scored the next six to fight back to single-digits (53-44), but Oregon connected on two straight 3-pointers to push the game to 59-44 in favor of the Ducks. The visitors managed to carry a 16-point edge after three, 62-48.
The Utes scored the eight six points of the fourth quarter to slash Oregon's lead to eight (64-56) via a 3-point play by Fatuesi, a Kuklok 3-pointer and a lay-in by Potter. Oregon was able to work back to a 73-58 lead, but yet again, Utah answered with a 7-0 run to make it off a Potter lay-up, two Kuklok free throws and a Rodriguez 3-pointer to once again make it an eight-point game (73-65). Unfortunately, the Ducks took the final four points of the contest to set the final margin at 77-65.
Oregon (14-5, 3-5 Pac-12) was led by a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds from Jillian Alleyne.
