Utes Picked Eighth: The Utah women's basketball team has been picked eighth in the 2016-17 Pac-12 women's basketball preseason poll, announced by the league office on Thursday at the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Media Day. Lynne Roberts led Utah to the program's first winning season since 2012-13 and doubled the number of Pac-12 wins from the previous year by going 8-10 in league play. The Utes scored 2,266 points, which is fourth in school history. Utah was fifth in the Pac-12 in scoring with 68.7 points per game, a 13.8 point-per-game improvement from the 2014-15 team that finished last in the Pac-12 (54.9 ppg). Roberts' up-tempo style of play saw the Utes make 14 3-point field goals in their WNIT first-round victory over Montana on Mar. 18, 2016, which is the second-highest total in school history. Utah made rebounding a priority during its first season under Roberts. The club grabbed 1,399 rebounds, which is the third most in school history. The Utes hauled in 970 defensive rebounds, which stands second in the Utah record book.
