CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Junior wing Paige Crozon totaled 16 points and nine rebounds and just missed her 10th career double-double as the University of Utah women's basketball team lost 72-53 at No. 8 Oregon State on Sunday in Gill Coliseum.
Utah (14-11, 6-8 Pac-12) had three players hit double-figures for points, led by Crozon, who posted 16 points and nine rebounds to fall just one rebound shy of her second straight double-doubles and the 10th of her career. This was her fourth straight game with double-digits in points.
Sophomore forward Joeseta Fatuesi posted a season high with 13 points and she scored double-digits for the third time in the last four times. The Santa Clara, Calif., native made five of her nine field goal attempts.
Sophomore wing Tanaeya Boclair scored 10 points to register double-figures for the seventh time this season and 21st time of her career after making four of her eight shots to go along with three rebounds.
Redshirt sophomore Emily Potter had three blocks to set the school's single-season blocks record with 64 this season. She also moved into seventh place in school history with 107 career blocks and is 12 away from passing Mikki Kane-Barton (118 from 1989-93) for sixth.
Boclair tied the game for the Utes at 2-2 and the contest would be once more at four points apiece. A Crozon 3-pointer brought Utah back within one (8-7) before the Beavers scored 11 straight (19-7). Utah answered with a 7-3 run to close the quarter that included a putback and three free throws by Fatuesi broke the OSU run and cut Utah' s deficit to eight (22-14). Utah out-rebounded OSU 13-12 in the frame, while Crozon led the team with seven points and grabbed six boards.
The Utes scored six of the first eight points of the second quarter to pull within four (24-20) as the Beavers missed five of their first six shots. OSU scored the next five points to jump back out to a 10-point edge (34-24) at halftime. Crozon poured in nine-first half points to go with a team-high seven boards. Fatuesi also scored nine points and Rodriguez hauled in four rebounds.
Boclair drove for a lay-in to lift the lid for the Utes in the second half, but OSU was able to go on a 7-2 spurt early in the third quarter to build a 15-point advantage (41-26). Sophomore wing Malia Nawahine popped for a jump shot and Potter spotted up for a jumper to cut the margin to 11 (41-30) and OSU took a 13 point lead into the fourth quarter.
Crozon knocked down a triple to start the fourth quarter by bringing the visitors back within 10 (54-44). Unfortunately, OSU was able to extend back out to a 16-point lead (66-50) en route to a 72-53 victory.
No. 8 Oregon State (22-3, 13-1 Pac-12) was led by 27 points by Jamie Weisner, while Ruth Hamblin had 11 rebounds and five blocks.
The Utes return to the Jon M. Huntsman Center for their final regular-season homestand next weekend, starting Friday at 6 p.m. MT against California. The game will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks with Krista Blunk (PBP) and Julianne Viani (Analyst) on the call.
