SAN FRANCISCO - Seven University of Utah student-athletes received 2015-16 Pac-12 Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic Team recognition, announced today by Commissioner Larry Scott. Senior guard Katie Kuklok has been named to the First Team, while Tanaeya Boclair, Gabrielle Bowie, Paige Crozon, Malia Nawahine, Emily Potter and Danielle Rodriguez each received Honorable Mention.
Utah's seven honorees tied for the lead among Pac-12 schools with Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford and Washington.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
Kuklok has accumulated a 3.93 GPA while pursuing her Master's degree in Public Health. On the court this season, Kuklok is third in the Pac-12 with a 44.5 (57-128) percentage from 3-point territory and 13th in the league with 1.8 3-pointers per game (237th in NCAA). In league games, Kuklok finished second in the Pac-12 with a 46.0% (29-63) from 3-point territory and tied for ninth in the Pac-12 with 1.6 3-pointers per game. She has scored double-figures 11 times this season, including a Utah career-high 22 points (5-of-8 from 3-point range) at No. 21 California on Jan. 10.
Boclair has eight double-figure scoring games this season and is third on team with 1.9 assists per contest. She scored 13 points in Utah's WNIT second-round victory at Gonzaga on Mar. 24 to go along with six boards and five assists against the Bulldogs. She registered 13 points (5-of-6 shooting) with seven boards and five assists vs. Cal (2/19), 13 points and seven boards vs. No. 15/19 UCLA (1/31) and 13 points with five rebounds and four assists against South Dakota.
Bowie has appeared in 22 games this season and turned in a career-high three assists while tying her career best with six points in career-high 12 minutes in Utah's WNIT first-round victory against Montana State.
Crozon was a Pac-12 All-Conference Honorable Mention pick and is currently third (34th in NCAA) in the Pac-12 in free throw percentage (.858, 103-120), fifth (123rd in NCAA) with 34.5 minutes per game, sixth in the Pac-12 with 6.2 defensive rebounds per game, eighth in the league (106th in NCAA) with 8.0 rebounds per game, 13th in 3-point shooting (.362, 54-149), 15th in 3-pointers per game (1.7) and 16th in the Pac-12 in scoring average (13.3 ppg).
Crozon, a two-time Pac-12 Academic honoree, has scored 10 or more points in 22 of the last 25 games and in a total of 24 games this season. She has reached the 20-point plateau in three of the last four contests and five times in 2015-16 to go along with 11 games with 10 or more rebounds.
Nawahine tied for 29th in the Pac-12 with 9.2 points per game in league action. The Springville, Utah native has had double-digits in points 11 times in 2015-16. She equaled her career-high with 20 points and gave out four assists against California (2/19) and initially set her career high with 20 points at No. 21 California (1/10) to go with a season-high five assists.
Potter was a Pac-12 All-Conference Team selection by both the coaches and the media to go along with Pac-12 All-Defensive Team Honorable Mention recognition. She set the school record with 78 blocked shots and is second in Pac-12 and 34th in the NCAA in blocked shots per game (2.4). Potter ranks second in the Pac-12 and 20th in the NCAA with 16 double-doubles, third in the Pac-12 and 25th in the NCAA with 10.1 total rebounds per game, third in the Pac-12 and 27th in the NCAA with 7.1 defensive boards per contest, fifth in Pac-12 and 62nd in the NCAA in field goal percentage (49.5, 192-388), seventh in the Pac-12 in offensive rebounding (3.0 orpg), ninth in the Pac-12 and 175th in the NCAA in scoring (14.9 ppg) and 10th in the Pac-12 in free throw shooting at 67.1% (94-140) percent.
Rodriguez received Pac-12 All-Academic Recognition for the third straight year. She was one of five NCAA Division I women's basketball players named to the Allstate WBCA Good Works Team and also earned Pac-12 All-Conference Honorable Mention as well as Pac-12 All-Defensive Team Honorable Mention. She is eighth in the Pac-12 (86th in NCAA) with 4.3 assists per game, 10th in the league (106th in NCAA) with a 1.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (136-81), ranks 30th in the Pac-12 with 9.8 points per contest. She leads the team with 1.3 steals per game and stands second on the team with 31.8 minutes per game. In Pac-12 games only, Rodriguez tied for fourth with 4.3 assists per contest in league play, tied for seventh with a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio (78-49) and was 26th in the league with 10.3 points per game in Pac-12 play.
