SALT LAKE CITY - The No. 72 Utah men's tennis team hosts No. 8 USC (13-4, 3-1 Pac-12) this Fri., Apr. 8 at 4 p.m. MST, and No. 4 UCLA (16-2, 4-0 Pac-12) on Sun., Apr. 10 at 12 p.m. MST at the Eccles Tennis Center. These two matches will be the last of the season at home as seniors Matt Cowley and Jamey Swiggart will be honored at the match against UCLA.
"We have an unbelievable opportunity to compete against two of the best teams in the Pac-12 and in the nation," said head coach Roeland Brateanu "this will be one of our last chances to solidify and improve our position in the national rankings in hopes of making it to the NCAA tournament."
Match Notes
-David Micevski holds a 14-4 record in singles play with results coming from the No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 positions.
-Jamey Swiggart holds a 9-4 record in singles play with results coming from the No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 positions.
-Matt Cowley holds a 15-4 doubles record and has played with Jamey Swiggart (7-2), Parker McGuiness (1-0), and currently Dan Little (7-2).
USC (17-2)
USC is currently ranked No. 8 nationally by ITA and are 12-4 against ranked opponents. The Trojans have six ranked singles players, led by No. 18 Max de Vroome. They also have two ranked doubles teams in No. 49 Nick Crystal and Laurens Verboven, and No. 89 De Vroome and Jack Jaede.
UCLA (16-2)
UCLA is on a nine-match winning streak, ranked No. 4 nationally by the ITA and 13-2 against ranked opponents. The Bruins roster features four ranked players, paced by No. 9 Mackenzie McDonald. The roster also contains the No. 5-ranked doubles team in McDonald and Martin Redlicki who have beaten the No. 1 team and No. 4 team in the nation.
