Team Canada won back-to-back gold medals in 2015 and will assemble in Edmonton on Saturday for the first phase of training before trimming down to a squad that will travel to Spain and France for a five-game exhibition tour.
Canada is ranked No. 9 in the latest FIBA World Rankings and will face No. 2 Australia, No. 3 Spain, No. 4 France, No. 8 China and No. 13 Cuba during the trip.
Potter was a Pac-12 All-Conference Team selection by both the coaches and the media in 2015-16 in addition to Pac-12 All-Defensive Team Honorable Mention and All-Academic Honorable Mention recognition.
In Potter's most recent international experience in August of 2014, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native was named Tournament MVP after leading the Canadian Women's Development Team to five consecutive victories and the title at the 36th annual Jones Cup in Taiwan.
Gaucher, Plouffe and Thorburn helped the Canadian National Team earn its first-ever gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Games last July in Toronto.
Formerly Kim Smith, Gaucher played for Utah from 2002-06 and was recognized as an Honorable Mention WBCA All-American each of her four seasons and was the first female student-athlete to have her jersey retired in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Gaucher was also a CoSIDA Academic All-American and one of only two Utes to be named conference player of the year four times.
Plouffe was a three-time All-Pac-12 selection for the Utes as well as a 2014 Pac-12 All-Defensive Team pick. She scored 2,100 career points and a school-record 1,155 rebounds to become one of three Utes to accumulate over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds over their respective careers.
Thorburn was a 2005 and 2006 Kodak/WBCA Honorable Mention All-America and 2005 Third-team Full Court Press All-America and Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year. She was also the 2006 MWC Tournament MVP as well as a two-time first-team All-MWC in 2005 and 2006. She dished out a school-record 242 assists in 2006, which ranked second nationally (7.1 apg). She was recently named the Canada Basketball Women's Player of the Week for May 11-18 after scoring a game-high 24 points against NICE with a 58.0% shooting performance, including a 50.0% mark from 3-point range. The third and final phase of training will begin July 22 in Toronto.
The team will then head to the U.S. for an exhibition tournament before heading to Rio de Janeiro for the Olympic Games from Aug. 5-22.
