SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Utah women's basketball standout
Emily Potter has been named to the 2018 Lisa Leslie Award Watch List, it was announced today by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
The award, which is in its inaugural year, recognizes the top centers in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. Potter is one of 20 student-athletes from across the country on the list and is one of five representing the Pac-12.
"It is such an honor just to be on the watch list with the name of Lisa Leslie on it," Potter said. "She is such an instrumental player in women's basketball development. I am excited to get my senior season underway with my teammates and represent Utah to the best of my ability."
The Lisa Leslie Award is named after the three-time All-American and 1994 National Player of the Year out of USC. The selection committee for the award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.
By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players will be narrowed to 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Leslie and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Fans will be able to vote for Potter at

Potter, a 6-6 forward out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, enters her senior season ranked seventh all-time in the Pac-12 in career blocks (215), putting her just 10 away from tying the Utah record of 225 held by Lauren Beckman (1998-02). Potter and Beckman are the only two players in program history to score 1,000-plus points, grab 800-plus rebounds and have 200-plus blocks in a career.
Potter has averaged 13.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game through three seasons with Utah. She has earned spots on the Pac-12 All-Conference and All-Defensive teams the past two seasons, also getting it done off the court with All-Academic honorable mention nods.
She broke the single-season Utah record for blocks in back-to-back seasons, including her 89 last year that ranked in the top-15 in the country and first in the Pac-12. Heading into her year, she has 73 career with 10-plus points, 35 with 10-plus rebounds, 30 double-doubles, and she has started all 95 games in her career.
"One of the things that was great about Lisa Leslie was her consistency, and Emily definitely has that quality," head coach
Lynne Roberts said. "She has continued to improve on her game every single season and her desire to be great is unmatched. Without a doubt, Emily is one of the best centers in the country this year. We are excited to get the season started."
The winner of the 2018 Lisa Leslie Award will be announced during ESPN2's telecast of the national semifinal games in the 2018 NCAA Women's Final Four in Columbus, Ohio on Friday, March 30.
