LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Utah men's tennis team carded a win against Lamar University today, with a final score of 4-2. With this win, the Utes are now 12-4 overall.
Lamar took the early lead by taking the doubles point against the Utes. Joe Woolley and Santiago Sierra were the only doubles team to card a win, defeating Jeandre Hoogenboezem and Nikita Lis at the No. 2 spot with a final score of 6-2.
In singles action, Slava Shainyan cruised past Michael Feucht at the No. 1 position, with a final score of 6-1, 6-2. Santiago Sierra the defeated Jeandre Hoogenboezem at the No. 2 spot, with a final score of 6-3, 6-3. Then at the No. 4 position, Joe Woolley edged out Juuso Laitinen after falling behind with the loss of the first set, with a final score of 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Then to finish things off for the Utes, Egbert Weverink defeated Logan Powell at the No. 6 position with a final score of 3-6, 7-5, 6-0, to give Utah the win.
The Utah men's tennis team will be back in action this Saturday to finish out their California road trip, as the Utes are matched up against Loyola Marymount University with play beginning at 11 a.m. MST.
