 Inside the Huddle
After performing well at new positions in an experimental capacity last week, senior Kenric Young and freshman Nick Ford are officially switching sides. Young, who played receiver his first three seasons at Utah, is now a cornerback. Ford, recruited as a defensive tackle, has moved to the offensive line … Seeing increased reps at center are sophomores Paul Toala and Johnny Capra. Toala redshirted last season, while Capra played in one game on special teams as a freshman … A leader has yet to emerge in the placekicking battle where the candidates hoping to replace graduated four-year starter Andy Phillips are sophomore Hayes Hicken, freshman Chayden Johnston and senior Matt Gay. Gay, added to Utah's 105 roster last week, is a walk-on transfer from Utah Valley where he played on the soccer team … Hicken kicked off for the Utes last season but is being pushed for that job in camp by junior punter Mitch Wishnowsky … The Pac-12 Faculty Athletic Representatives' Committee approved Oregon transfer Darren Carrington's waiver of the Intra-Conference Transfer Penalty and he will be eligible for competition this season without sitting out a year in residence.
 Looking Good
Offensive standouts in last week's practices included wide receiver Samson Nacua, offensive tackles Jackson Bartonand Salesi Uhatafe and running backs Armand Shyneand Zack Moss. Shyne and Moss are on even footing at running back. All three quarterback candidates are also performing well according to head coach Kyle Whittingham. Quarterbacks Troy Williams, Tyler Huntleyand Cooper Bateman will continue to share reps as long as necessary to determine a starter. Whittingham identifies the linemen and cornerbacks/nickel backs as exceptionally strong positions on the defensive side of the ball.
 Pac-12 Networks in Town
A crew from the Pac-12 Networks will be in Salt Lake City on Aug. 7-8 for the Utah segment of its annual Football Training Camp show. In addition to capturing footage from practice, they will conduct interviews with the Barton family; quarterbacks Troy Williams, Tyler Huntley and Cooper Bateman; and offensive coordinator Troy Taylor. Monday's shoot will feature the Barton family Utah pipeline with parents Paul and Mikki(Kane)Barton, sons Jackson and Cody Barton, and daughter DaniBarton. Paul was on the Utah football and baseball teams, Mikki starred on Utah's basketball and volleyball teams, Jackson and Cody are juniors on the football team and Dani is a freshman volleyball player. On Tuesday, the quarterbacks will take the Training Camp show stage.
 Two-Minute Drill
Utah is ranked No. 25 in the preseason Coaches' poll. The Utes have finished the last three seasons ranked in the top 25 in both the Associated Press and Coaches' polls and are one of five teams to appear in every CFB weekly poll since the College Football Playoffs began in 2014. The others are Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Florida State … With the extra week of practices at this year's preseason camp, a decision was reached to cancel the Aug. 5 scrimmage. The first scrimmage will now be held on Aug. 12 with the primary goals to see offensive execution and tackling on defense under live conditions … Weekly depth charts will not be issued during preseason camp.
