SAN FRANCISCO – Forward
Dre'Una Edwards has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced today.
It is the sixth time Utah has earned a freshman of the week nod from the Pac-12 and the first of her career. Edwards's honor comes on the heels of her stellar performance in Utah's season opening win against Nevada.
In her first career outing as a Ute, Edwards put up 16 points and 15 rebounds, leading the Utes to a 74-52 victory over the Wolf Pack. The Las Vegas, Nev., native was 6-of-16 from the floor, including going 4-of-5 from the free throw line.
Her double-double was the first time a true freshman has had a double-double in a season since 2014-15 and the first time since 2010 that a true freshman has opened their career with a double-double. She also had an assist and a block to round out her stat line.
Edwards and the Utes return to action tomorrow when they host Alabama in the Jon M. Huntsman Center at 7 p.m. MT. Tickets are available
