Â
SENIOR DAY
This Friday against Colorado will be Senior Day for the Utes. The team will be honoring
Lauga Gauta and
Berkeley Oblad.
Gauta has been with Utah for two seasons and been a main contributor this season. She was named MVP of the Utah Volleyball Classic and has had three 20-kill matches this year.
Oblad unfortunately had her senior season cut short, but has had a tremendous career with Utah. Last season, she was a key part of the Sweet 16 team and was named AVCA All-American honorable mention. Oblad also was named honorable mention for the AVCA Pacific South Region and All-Pac-12 Team.Â
She didn't only get the job done on the court though, as she was a two-time honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic Team member.
WINNING SEASON
The win over Oregon State secured a record of over .500 for the Utes this season.
Â
In 29 seasons, head coach
Beth Launiere has led her team to at least a .500 record in 23 of those 29 seasons.
Â
DREWS DOES IT ALL
Coming into the season, Utah needed its young outsides to step up and
Dani Drews has done just that. She has been a consistent force for the Utes on offense and defense. She leads the team with 439 kills and is second on the team with 299 digs.
Â
Drews has only had two matches this season where she didn't have double-figure kills and has led the team in kills in 17 matches this season.
Â
Against Oregon State, she stepped up the most when her team needed her finishing the match with 24 kills hitting .333 and had 18 digs. Drews closed out all three of the sets the Utes won with kills and in the fifth set had the final five kills for Utah.
Â
Drews great season stacks up in the Pac-12 as she is fifth in the Pac-12 averaging 4.45 points per set and is fifth in conference averaging 3.88 kills per set.
Â
Rarely leaving the floor, Drews is also second on the team with 34 aces on the season. Her .31 aces per set is eighth in the Pac-12.
