SAN FRANCISCO – For the second straight week, freshman forward
Dre'Una Edwards has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced today.
It is the first time since Utah joined the Pac-12 that they have received back-to-back recognitions and the seventh overall freshman of the week honor since the Utes joined the conference in 2011.
In Utah's wins over Alabama and Long Beach State, Edwards averaged 11.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals. She shot 58-percent combined from the floor in the two victories, also shooting 75-percent from the free throw line.
The Las Vegas, Nev., native scored her second double-double of the season against Alabama, putting up 10 points and 10 rebounds. She has two double-doubles on the season, making her the only freshman in the Pac-12 and just one of 10 in the country to have two double-doubles this season.
Against Long Beach State, Edwards scored 13 points, adding six boards, an assists, a block and a steal to her stat line. She also shot a season-high 75-percent from the field (6-of-8) against the Beach.
Edwards and the Utes return to action tonight as they host the Idaho State Bengals at 7 p.m. MT in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The game will be streamed on UtahUtes.com.
