OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior power forward
Megan Huff has been named one of 30 candidates for the 2018-19 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced today.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The field will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February with the winner being announced during the 2019 NCAA Women's Final Four this spring.
Although she has only played one full season for the Utes, she has made a lasting impact on and off the court. Her work in the classroom and the community has been an invaluable experience for the senior.
Huff, who graduated in the spring with a degree in family consumer studies, is working toward her second degree in sociology this year. Her passion for helping children has been unmatched, volunteering for multiple youth camps, basketball clinics and mentoring at elementary schools.
She has been active in the community since stepping foot in Salt Lake City, helping serve meals to the homeless, being a part of youth clinics are various elementary schools and also being involved in a program that promotes safety and inclusion at recess for elementary aged children. One of the projects she prides herself most on is a Utah initiative that she is involved with called "bags to bed" when she helps sew together recycled plastic bags into beds for the homeless population in the Salt Lake City area.
On the court, Huff quickly became one of the best forwards in the conference, earning first-team All-Pac-12 as a junior last season. She averaged 14.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, ranking in the top-11 in the conference in scoring, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and offensive, defensive and total rebounds per game.
Through six games this season, Huff has been averaging 19.5 points per game, ranking fourth in the conference. She has scored in double digits in all six games, including in the 20-point range in three, eclipsing the 1,000 career points mark with her 23 points against Seattle U (455 points at Hawaii).
Huff and the Utes return to action tomorrow when they host Utah Valley at 5:30 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Networks.
