SAN FRANCISCO – The University of Utah women's basketball program was honored for its efforts in the classroom today with the announcement that five Ute student-athletes earned spots on the Pac-12 All-Academic teams.
Erika Bean,
Tanaeya BoClair,
Megan Jacobs,
Kiana Moore and
Emily Potter were all recognized on this year's Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention list, proving that hard work can be achieved on and off the court.
Potter has been named to the honorable mention all-academic team three times in her career while BoClair and Bean are claiming their second selections to the team. Jacobs and Moore, who were freshmen last season and weren't eligible for consideration, are receiving their first all-academic nods.
Potter, who has already achieved a degree in marketing, is currently pursuing her degree in journalism. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native has played in all 30 games this season. She has broken into the top-10 all-time at Utah in every rebounding category along with setting a new record for career blocks, but off the court, she has kept things balanced, interning with the school newspaper as a sports writer and columnist.
BoClair is working toward a degree in exercise sports science and has been adamant about staying in athletics as a post-graduate doing anything from coaching basketball to being a mental coach. The San Antonio, Texas, native has played in 123 career games and recently joined the distinguished 1,000-point club at Utah, becoming the 28
th player in program history to have 1,000+ career points.
Bean, a kinesiology major, is the only player on the team to start all 30 games this season. As Utah's "floor general", she leads the team in assists (153) and is ranked in the top-five in the Pac-12 and in the top-55 in the country in the statistic. She has also been one of Utah's sneakiest defenders, leading the Utes in steals with 42.
Jacobs has been key for Utah this season, coming off the bench to score 3.9 points per game. The Las Vegas, Nev., native, who is aspiring to be a firefighter after school, is pursuing a degree in health promotion and education with an emphasis in emergency medical services. Jacobs stepped into a larger role for the Utes late in the season and has averaged over six points per game in the last three.
Moore rounds out Utah's all-academic selections. The sophomore has come off the bench to play integral minutes at the point guard and shooting guard positions. She scored a season-best of 14 points against Incarnate Word during the non-conference season and has been key in Utah's depth, adding points in 10 games.
The Utes return to action this week as they host the UNLV Lady Rebels on Thursday, March 15 at 7 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center for the first round of the 2018 WNIT.
