Daneesha Provo has been named to the 2018 Commonwealth Games roster for the Canadian National Team, it was announced today. This year's Commonwealth Games will take place in Gold Coast, Australia, April 4-15.Â
Provo and Team Canada will start the tournament against England on Friday, April 6. The Canadian women are in Pool A that consists of Australia, England and Mozambique while Pool B features New Zealand, India and Malaysia.Â
Provo is one of 12 athletes on this year's roster and will be playing with some familiar faces. Along with Provo, former Ute
Paige Crozon and future Ute Niyah Becker will also be wearing the jersey of their country in Gold Coast.Â
This won't be the Dartmouth, Nova Scotia native's first stint with the Canadian National Team, playing on the Canadian Junior National Team in multiple tournaments before coming to Utah. She was a part of the silver medal winning squad at the 2014 FIBAÂ Americas U18 Championships and also helped Team Canada to another silver medla at the 2014 FIBAÂ Americas 3 vs. 3 tournament.Â
She also competed for Team Canada at the 2013 and 2015 FIBAÂ U19 World Championships in Lithuania and Russia, respectively. Provo is coming off her best season as a Ute yet, averaging 12.3 points per game.Â
The junior started in 14 games this season and scored in double-digits in 18 games, reaching the 20-point mark in three. She finished the season ranking in the top-10 in the Pac-12 in field goal percentage and free throw percentage and was in the top-20 in scoring.Â
