Utes Fall to Oregon on Senior Day

SALT LAKE CITY – In its final home match of the season at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center, the University of Utah men's tennis team was unable to tally a win, as they dropped a match to the 41st-ranked Oregon Ducks by a score of 4-3. No. 35 Utah fell to 19-6 overall, 2-4 in Pac-12 conference play.

In doubles play, the Utes fell behind early as the Ducks were able to earn the point. Dan Little and Azat Hankuliyev were the only pair to record a victory for the Utes on court No. 3, as they defeated Akihiro Tanaka and Charles Roberts by a final score of 6-2.

Then in singles, the Utes were able to rally and collect three wins to make it a close match with Oregon. Senior Santiago Sierra recorded the first victory for the Utes at the No. 4 spot, as he was able to beat out Cormac Clissold, 7-5, 6-4, to even the score up at 1-1.
David Micevski then put in a win of his own at the No. 2 position, as he topped Oregon's Simon Stevens with a score of 6-4, 6-2. Senior Egbert Weverink tied the score up 3-3 with a win on the No. 3 court, as he defeated Akihiro Tanaka in a three-set comeback, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6.
Dan Little was unable to earn a victory at the No. 1 spot against Thomas Laurent, as he fell 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, for the Ducks to take the 4-3 victory.

Today's match was also Senior Day, where the collegiate careers of Weverink and Sierra were recognized in between doubles and singles play.
Utah will be back in action next weekend for their final matches of the regular season. A match against UCLA is scheduled for April 20, and is set to start at 3 p.m. They will then take on USC, April 21 at 2 p.m.
