Utes Drop Match to No. 34 Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 32 Utah ended its road trip with a loss at No. 34 Cal, 4-0.
With this loss, the Utes move to an overall record of 19-4, and fall to a record of 2-2 in Pac-12 play.
In doubles play, Cal earned the early advantage as it was able to win the doubles point. On the No. 1 court, the duo of Egbert Weverink and Joe Woolley fell to No. 27 Billy Griffith and J.T. Nishimuar by a score of 6-1. Then at the No. 2 position, Randy Cory and Russell Benkaim fell to Cal's Ben Draper and Jack Molloy, 6-2, as the Bears headed into singles with a 1-0 lead.
Santiago Sierra was unable to record a victory at the No. 4 spot, as he was topped by Cal's Ben Draper with a score of 6-2, 6-4. On the No. 1 court, No. 97 Dan Little fell to No. 57 Billy Griffith, 6-4, 6-2, to put the Bears into winning position. Weverink was knocked off by Jack Molloy at the No. 3 spot, finishing with a score of 6-3, 6-4, to give California the 4-0 victory over the Utes.
The Utah men's tennis team will be back in action next week for two Pac-12 home matches at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. They will first face off against the University of Washington on April 13 at 4 p.m., followed by a match against the University of Oregon on April 14 at 12 p.m.
