LAS VEGAS – The University of Utah women's basketball program is set to take part in the 2018 Duel in the Desert this season with two games slated Dec. 19-21 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Eight Division I women's basketball teams have been invited to the tournament that will take place at UNLV's Cox Pavilion. The field includes Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Northwestern, the Utes, Washington State, Wichita State and UNLV.
The field will be split into two divisions of four teams, the Rebel Division and Desert Division, and each division will crown a champion. Utah and Florida will face off on Dec. 20 in the Rebel Division with the winner playing the victor of the Hawaii/UNLV game on Dec. 21 with the third and fourth place game also taking place that same day.
The Utes and the Gators have only played against each other once in school history, with Florida defeating Utah 57-51 in the Cardinal Classic in Palo Alto in 1992. The Utes are 5-0 all-time against Hawaii and 32-14 against UNLV, including a win in the first round of the WNIT last season.
