Jordan Cruz. The 5-11 wing from Sacramento, Calif. has not had an easy road to the Utes after having to overcome brain surgery to play her senior season of high school. She went on to average 20-plus points as a senior at C.K. McClatchy High School.
Q: How did your interest in basketball begin?
A: My interest in basketball first began when I would play with the boys at recess during the first grade.
Q: What is your favorite part about playing basketball?
A: My favorite thing about being a basketball player is throughout my journey I've met a ton of amazing people, friends, coaches, families, etc. I have made a lot of great relationships, and the game of basketball has also taught me a lot about life not only on the court but outside as well.
Q: What made you choose Utah?
A: Utah was my choice not only because of the team, coaches, and basketball but also because of the wonderful education here, the beautiful campus, weather, and it has a lot of helpful resources.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of basketball?
A: I like to swim, play video games, golf, and watch movies.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you've been given?
A: "Play every game like it's your last, because you never know when it could end."
Q: Who is your biggest influence in life on and off the court and why?
A: My dad is my biggest influence because he was also a college athlete, so he has been through it all. He helps me get through the rough in life, always supports me, and I want to have the mindset like him, where you can accomplish things if you really work for it.
Q: What do you think are some keys to success when it comes to being a college athlete?
A: Keys to success as a college athlete are sacrifice, hard work, dedication, and being a family with your team and always having each other's back no matter what.
Q: If you could play and go pro in any other sport, what would it be and why?
A: Golf because I have been playing golf since I was a little girl. My entire family plays golf, and it is a really high paying professional sport.
Q: What are you looking forward to most this season?
A: I am looking forward to playing with this team, and us to keep working hard for a successful season.
Q: What is your favorite part about being on the basketball team at Utah so far?
A: I love my teammates, I am very thankful of all the resources we get as student athletes, and it is a privilege to represent the University of Utah.
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Salt Lake City?
A: Park Cafe.
Q: If you could have a super power, what would it be?
A: Teleportation.
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: I wish I could sing.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Crazy Rich Asians.
Q: What is a holiday that doesn't exist that you would like to create?
A: I do not have anything in mind, but I do know what holiday I do not want to be created, and that is
the purge.
Q: What did you want to be growing up?
A: I wanted to be a model growing up.
Q: If you could take three things with you to a desert island, what would they be?
A: Family, food, and a plane.
Q: If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
A: Caring, sensitive, and funny.
Q: What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
A: Banana.
Q: If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
A: The future to see what's in front of me in case I would like to make any changes or fix things.
